PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Delray Beach was awarded a federally funded grant from the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) under its Local Initiatives Program for the Old Germantown Road Complete Streets Project. Enhancements, including multi-use paths along both sides of Old Germantown Road, are being completed from Old Germantown Road to South Congress Avenue.
The City of Delray Beach contracted Propel Engineering, Inc. to provide engineering and surveying services. The services included the preparation of a construction plan and improvements to pedestrian-scale lighting and signing and pavement markings. All work will be done in the existing right-of-way. The first public meeting was held on March 8, 2023, providing an opportunity for the community to provide input. Following the first public meeting, the project team visited with stakeholders who reside along Old Germantown Road, to explain potential impacts of the project and receive additional input. A second public meeting was held on October 19, 2023 to provide residents and stakeholders an update on the adjustments made to the plans after receiving public input. Design documents for construction of this project were provided as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Design was strictly limited to the scope included in the grant agreement award from the TPA.
A public meeting was held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, to introduce the construction team. R.J. Behar & Company, Inc. is providing engineering oversight during the construction phase. Construction began Monday, May 5, 2025. The team will be providing updates to stakeholders throughout the life of the project as work is completed throughout the corridor.
